Privacy, no more?

Privacy, No More by Facebook and Others

Facebook and other internet applications are encroaching upon private lives. Is there a way out? When Facebook unveiled 2014’s Year in Review feature, not everyone was happy. The dissenters didn’t dislike social media; they were people who didn’t need reminders of painful life events. Facebook was forced to apologise when it was made clear the feature was insensitive to many users. So, when Facebook revealed the On This Day feature in March 2015, it was expected to function on a better algorithm, such as the ability to choose daily notifications for viewing memories. But how thoughtful can a computer algorithm be, anyway?
In my experience, not a lot. Because a thoughtful human wouldn’t remind me of a status update I made about the birthday of a destructive person from my past. Healing is hard, harder still when your social media account cheerfully reminds you of someone you’d forgotten.

Through On This Day, I saw posts all the way back to 2008. I’d seen who I was as a young girl, and even now, as a semi-adult. My life through the past six years or so was on Facebook. It knows my best friends. It knows how many times I fought with my siblings. It knows which teachers I hated. I think of this with nostalgia, not fear. I won’t blame Facebook, though. It’s my fault for never bothering to read Facebook’s privacy policy which says,
“We collect the content and other information you provide when you use our Services This can include information in or about the content you provide, such as the location of a photo or the date a file was created. We also collect information about how you use our Services, such as the types of content you view or engage with or the frequency and duration of your activities.

We also collect content and information that other people provide such as when they share a photo of you, send a message to you, or upload, sync or import your contact information.”
Of course, this wasn’t even the data policy when I joined Facebook in 2008. Facebook’s policy has grown more invasive over the years. In 2009, Facebook made controversial to its privacy policy, resulting in information, such as the pages a user likes being made public.
The fact that Facebook’s privacy settings, are constantly changing means even the most tech-savvy user cannot successfully protect their information. User information is also shared with advertisers and vendors, but we are told, “We do not share information that personally identifies you with advertising, measurement or analytics partners unless you give us permission. More

Nowadays Television has become very important part of our life.

Television is one of the most important inventions of the twentieth century. Today it is as popular as a radio. Television is a good and healthy source of both entertainment and education. The world seems to have become small because of television. We can see with our eyes the events that take place hundred and thousands of kilometers away from us. Thus television is a powerful medium of mass communication. TV, the abbreviation for television is a telecommunication device used to provide news, entertainment, education and information to viewers. It became popular in the mid twentieth century. Televisions are used to view various subscription based programming. The invention of the television was the work of many individuals in the 19th and early 20th century. Individuals and corporations competed in various parts of the world to deliver a device that superseded previous technology. Many were compelled to capitalize on the invention and make profit, while some wanted to change the world through visual communication technology and a Television, commonly referred to as TV or Tele is a telecommunication medium used for transmitting sound with moving images in monochrome, black & white, colour, or in three dimensions. It can refer to a television set, a television program, or the medium of television transmission. Television is a mass medium, for entertainment, advertising and news. Television became available in crude experimental forms in the late 1920s. After World War II, an improved form became popular in the United States and Britain, television sets became commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions. During the 1950s, television was the primary medium for influencing public opinion. In the mid 1960s, color broadcasting was introduced in the US and most other developed countries. In 2013, 79% of the world's households owned a television set. The replacement of bulky, high-voltage cathode ray tube, CRT, screen displays with compact, energy efficient, flat-panel alternatives such as plasma displays, LCDs, both fluorescent backlit and LED, and OLED displays was a hardware revolution that began with computer monitors in the late 1990s. Most TV sets sold in the 2000s were flat panel, mainly LEDs. Major manufacturers announced the discontinuation of CRT, DLP, plasma, and even fluorescent backlit LCDs by the mid 2010s. LEDs are expected to be replaced gradually by OLEDs in near future. Also, major manufacturers have announced that they will increasingly produce smart TV sets in the mid 2010s. Smart TVs are expected to become the dominant form of television set by the late 2010s. The basic idea of using three monochrome images to produce a color image had been experimented with almost as soon as black and white televisions had first been built. Digital television, DTV, is the transmission of audio and video by digitally processed and multiplexed signals, in contrast to the totally analog and channel separated signals used by analog television. Digital TV can support more than one program in the same channel bandwidth. It is an innovative service that represents the first significant evolution in television technology since color television in the 1950s. Digital TV's roots have been tied very closely to the availability of inexpensive, high performance computers. It wasn't until the 1990s that digital TV became a real possibility. Digital television transition started in late 2000s. All the governments across the world set the deadline for analog shutdown by 2010s. Initially the adoption rate was low. But soon, more and more households were converting to digital televisions. The transition is expected to be completed worldwide by mid to late 2010s. The advent of digital television allowed innovations like smart TVs. A smart television, sometimes referred to as connected TV or hybrid TV, is a television set or set top box with integrated Internet and Web 2.0 features, and is an example of technological convergence between computers and television sets and set top boxes. Besides the traditional functions of television sets and set top boxes provided through traditional broadcasting media, these devices can also provide Internet TV, online interactive media, over the top content, as well as on demand streaming media, and home networking access. These TVs come preloaded with an operating system. Smart TV should not to be confused with Internet TV, IPTV or with Web TV. Internet television refers to the receiving of television content over the internet instead of by traditional systems  terrestrial, cable and satellite, although internet itself is received by these methods. Internet Protocol television, IPTV, is one of the emerging Internet television technology standards for use by television broadcasters. Web television, WebTV, is a term used for programs created by a wide variety of companies and individuals for broadcast on Internet TV. Major TV manufacturers have announced production of smart TVs only, for middle end and high end TVs in 2015. Smart TVs are expected to become dominant form of television by late 2010s. There are a lot of advantages making television so popular. The main reason why so many people choose this means of getting information and entertainment is its simplicity and convenience. Television has been very popular on society since it was developed in the 20th century. People have considered it as a gift which engineers and scientists brought for them. Television has become an important part of people's life as a source of information and entertainment and a great tool for learning and communication. However, it has also promoted negative aspects, such as violence, lowered moral, time consuming, and fear, especially in children. Without a doubt, television has played an important role in our daily life, and it is beneficial to people in several ways. First, television is a great source of providing information and a helpful tool for education. Television shows people to see what is going on around them by giving current news, weather reports, sporting events, or information about places and criminals around the world. There are programs, such as education, history, travel, or discovery that people can learn about places, cultures, and histories of other countries or learn about the world of wild animals. Television is the first place, that keeps people informed about products through advertisements on TV and it gives us information about different products and it makes us easier to choose things to buy. But TV has a lot of disadvantages too. The first one is that there are a lot of violence and debauchery in TV films, even in cartoons. And violence has a bad effect on children and teenagers. They can't understand what is right or what is wrong and sometimes try to copy that they have seen. Furthermore, there are too much advertisements on TV. It is really irritating agent, which get people danger up. Sometimes it can encourage us to buy things we don't need at all. Last but not least, watching TV takes a lot of time and it makes us lazy. Some people believe, that it is a waste of time, a time which better would be spent on doing more useful things like reading, working an so on. Inspite of all these things, television has become very important part and need of our life.
